using hep or jg is probably asking for trouble every bit as much as using compressions, which is as daft as using solder ring fittings.... I find when I use the solder ring with jg the pipe always melts should I use the hep instead

yes, hep is much better, the plastic used is a thermoset plastic - the copper will melt before that does. happy soldering.
