MacAllister Rechargeable Batteries

Hi, I have the MacAllister tools that use the 18V rechargeable Nicad batteries. The problem I have is they are all dead and won't charge. Does anyone know where I can get some new ones or know of any updated items that will fit. I really don't won't or can afford to buy a new set of tools again. The battery designation number is: CLM18NICD. Thanks in advance.

thanks merlin, I've taken the case apart and had a gander inside so reckon I could do it. I don't suppose you know where I could get some from do you?

might just be one faulty cell, check before buying new tools. if you do buy new tools get bosch, best tools on the market.

These tags say "spot welded". Can You just use a soldering iron on these? surely I don' t need to get my mig welder out!

(I am rebuilding a snap on battery £100+ new!)

Before you start thinking about buying a new battery, check out your old one first. I nearly threw mine away yesterday, but read some posts on line which prompted me to strip mine down.
What I found was that there is a tag at the end of the inset black lead which comes from the mini circuit board.
This goes through the plastic plate and makes a connection on the end of the run of "sausage like" battery cells. This tag had snapped because it is so flimsy.
This tag can be soldered with care or run a small piece of copper wire through the plate and solder to both halves of the tag.
Now my battery works as good as new.

FYI some mac alister batteries are interchangable with gmc 18v batteries. I only found this out when my charger died. Battery type 2G18B1. Available on amazon sold by silverline. Hope this helps somebody.
