Hi, I keep my 10 year old bmw in garage over-winter, 20000 since new. However, I have to boot it up every few weeks to keep battery charged, and invariably leave it too long. Then I jump lead it with 2nd car.Can anyone recommend a good trickle charger that can be left on all the time, yet, just quickly unplugged when I need to use it? Through lighter if possible.

If you want the charger to be on continuous duty, its probably best to pay more for it...Oxford and Gunsons produce solid state chargers that are very good. I use an Oxford Optimiser 900 on my bike, cost around £50 I think. It won't charge up a huge car battery but it will maintain one. Maybe their own websites could help you?
I think you'd need to put your own fag lighter plug on though.
John :)

Hi, Thnks for reply.I,ve seen them at halfords,But crocodile clips put me off. there,s optional connector, besides cig lighter, do they screw on to terminals permanently.battery in boot under cover. argos do an oxford, £30.it,s just to keep it topped up.soon drains when not used, 2-3 weeks max.all the bumf on it.

i use a halfords battery charger that has a maintain mode. Ive wired in a quick connect coupling in my engine bay to hook it up and its all plugged in via a 24 hour timer that comes on 4 times a week.
Works well for me

Hi, That,s probably the one I looked at. £40 online.ktec I think.or something similar.never thought of timer.good idea.does the coupling screw onto terminals/or croc clips?

The wires from the coupler are connected to the battery permanently via electrical connectors, not a difficult task really.
Those ctek optimisers are supposed to be the best on the market, mine is just a charger that maintains from halfords. Was around £35.
