As part of some other work that's being done I'm going to get one fitted and get BC to sign it off. What's a recommended minimum size for the floorspace? It's 800 wide and at the back where the toilet will sit it'll be 1400 tall. I could make it 2500 long but it would eat into the kitchen area

It must be no worse than the one it replaced unless there has never been one on your ground floor in which case it can be any size.

There's never been one, but I'd like to know what size is considered the minimum to be usable?

Provided you can sit on the WC and close the door ...

You need ventilation (extractor fan), and a washbasin.

AFAIK there's no minimum room size or height. There may be accoustic insulation requirement for the walls.

Its whatever you consider the smallest, sit on your bog in your bathroom upstairs and consider how close you could cope with the walls, add space in front to stand up and do the business, consider where your basin is gonna be and the door swing and your there. If you wanna hang coats on the wall or back of the door allow extra for that too etc.

There are standard clearences. Taken from my 20 year old Collins DIY manual:

Min distance in front of WC rim - 600mm
Min width to house WC - 600mm

For basin Min space to bend at basin - distance from basin front rim to behind - 700mm
Basin min elbow room (sideways) 1100mm.

Thanks - just what I was looking for :-)
