What is the going rate for a plasterer?

Thinking in the not too distant future of having our loft conversion plastered. It has new plaster board fitted and it is a normal 3 bed semi.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

£100 to £150 a day or price per room or whole job.

£100/day is way too cheap for the domestic market; I wouldn’t do it for that & at that price your either going to get someone who’s new (but not necessarily bad), a real cowboy or someone whose desperate for work. A lot depends on location but the last two have an uncanny knack of going together, the best spreads can usually always get work.

Expect to pay at least £150 (£180 in Surrey) but you should get a top notch job for that; but the risk is always there so it’s important you check out their previous work.

best idea is to try and find a good plasterer... they can all talk a good job.... and thats the easy part....

It rather depends whose doing it & how much someone working alone (which is the norm on this type of work) can do in a day. Nobody is ever really keen on a small room which can only justify a ½ days work (although if your desperate ) So your looking at a full day’s cost & your better off throwing another room or the ceiling into the mix which may not cost you an awful lot more, if anything!

Assuming you’re talking skimming & not float & set, I'll do your whole house on that rate & I’ll throw in the ceilings for free & I still hate ceilings

What is float and set?

Basically it is a plaster board finish but i want to get it to the stage where i can paint on.

No! you only need a skim coat on the boards.

A backing plaster such as Hardwall, bonding etc with a finishing coat.

Don’t forget conventional render which is far better for many reasons & which some will still go for as opposed to using a base plaster. Base plaster is easier to use but, as far as material cost goes, rather more expensive.

But you don’t need to worry OP, all you need is a finish skim; sorry if I confused the issue, just defending the corner
