Hi, please help I had an electrical problem at home that needed correcting so i switched off the power and sorted job. However, since then my central heating and hot water is not working. I have checked pilot light and that is working I have power to timer and presumably room thermostat (but not checked that) I have changed fuse in the spur and now I am stuck. Any ideas? My family are moaning at me and I need to get this fixed without the help of British Gas if possible skint! Cheers!

you say you have power to the timer has it a digital display ?
what happens if you select constant on the hw/heating rather than timed ?
give us some info on the system etc.

Hi, thanks for quick reply I have put timer on constant still nothing. The timer is a Danfoss 102es timer linked to an old satchwell internal thermostat in lounge. All this linked to an old but reasonably reliable Baxi boiler.

room stat seems ok it is making the clicking noise that usally kicks boiler in but limited knowledge on this front!

Is your boiler fan flued by any chance? If this is the case the fan normally runs on low spped to cool the effect of the pilot. With no power the overheat stat may have tripped.

Job for a RGI if it is located in the combustion chamber (get it serviced at the same time). Check for an extrnal reset button first though. ;)

How do you know that it is done correctly?

We are engineers, not soothsayers; you need to give much more info.

That's just the switch clicking on and off (mechanical, not caused by electrical 'flow'). IMHO you need to find if any of the heating equipment is getting power.
Does anything have a display or light? Presumably the old pilot light keeps burning without power, so that's no indicator.
Checked the consumer unit (if there is one, and there's a heating switch / fuse there) as well as the spur you looked at? I'm presuming you're neither an electrician, nor have access to a multimeter?

That senario usually means that an engineer is going to be required.

An independent is usually cheaper as they dont have shareholders.

got a light on control unit which turns CH / water on and display still working. not sure how to check if room thermostat is ok I do have a new one should i fit it and see?

what model of baxi do you have?, do not start guessing you will only make things worse.
