The biggest bunch of thieving scoundrels walking the streets. Three birthday cards for my son "missing", no doubt pilfered in the hope of some easy pickings.

What a total pillock you are making sweeping statements like that

Having worked for the Post Office (no I wasn’t a Postman) I can tell you that this sort of crime is committed by one or two very stupid individuals who think they won’t get caught but they almost invariably do.

The Post Office have their own investigation branch with powers similar to the Police & carry out overt observation & “sting” techniques to catch the few brain dead idiots responsible & unless the offender has the brain power to quit while they are ahead, they almost invariable get caught & are heavily punished;

have you actually reported it to your local delivery office :?:

our postman said a lot of them are at it and the first time they get caught all they get is a warning. and as for our local post office

I have no idea why your postman would say that but you should not believe him. Royal Mail has a zero tolerance policy to theft or dishonesty as do the majority of postmen who are mostly honest and hard-working. In every case I’ve ever know of the person is prosecuted, dismissed, their pension void.

It’s your local Delivery Office (manager) you need to get in touch with, not your local Post Office which, presumably, you no longer have.

Sounds like your postman might be doing it himself.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush, generalizations are dangerous, most postmen are honest...

From my own personal experience, standards are slipping all the time. We had a regular postie for years, since they changed his round we have had numerous temp and casual posties.

One could hardly speak English (E. European), and hardly a week went by without several wrong letters coming through our door. Others wandered around casually dressed in trainers, shorts and t-shirts. Only the red bag gave away the fact that they were from the R. Mail.

I'm not blaming the posties. I have worked for companies that were well run operations with firm but fair management. Then its been taken over or there's been a management change, and the whole company has changed for the worst. The competent reliable staff move on, leaving the dross and temps to try and keep things afloat. Same at Royal Mail I understand.

Perhaps the "aunts and uncles" lied they sent cash thru the post?

Always an alternative view.

Ps several "posties" are good friends, fancy a pint with them one night to say the above in person?

One postal worker a day is caught stealing from mail

Following a Freedom of Information request, the Post Office revealed that 1,321 employees have been caught stealing since 2004 and 2008.

Howard Webber, the chief executive of consumer group Postwatch, said: "It is shocking that on average one Royal Mail employee per day is being prosecuted or cautioned for theft.

Luckily we've never had anything go amiss, and any large items our postie always stashed it round the side for us. Nice chap, we give him an Xmas tip every year. He does look like he has learning difficulties though

And of that who were they?
Temp workers who cannot read?
Lazy ones whom dump mail rather than deliver?
English or European?
