rumbling pipes

hello

i,ve got to look at some rumbling pipes, to start with i thought it might just be a case of needing a clip or two but i've been told it only happens with the hot water and it seems to go back to the boiler but they are not sure, bit stuck , any ideas. thanks

Do you mean when a hot tap is turned on ?
Or if boiler is set to hot water only
What sort of system do you have?

when hot tap is turned on. don't know system as described to me over the phone. but the tap that was turned on was not near the boiler when it was heard

Are you a plumber, as you looked at some rumbling pipes?

'Been told' ...........been told by who? that's why i thought you were the landlord.

If a pipe needs clipping, it will usually thump when the tap is turned off - could be hot or cold. You can install a 'shock arrestor' which will help if the pipes are completely unaccessible.

the pipes rumble while it is running, would i use a shock arrestor for this and are they easy to install.

i did a plumbing course for a year so know basic domestic stuff, but anything to do with boilers is beyond my capabilities,

I think you need to investigate this a little more, really - there's no particular reason for pipe rumble when hot water is being drawn off unless the water is too hot and maybe the odd pocket of steam is appearing.....to try to experience the rumble for yourself.
Its a different situation with the central heating though as this points to pockets of air being pushed around the system.
A shock arrestor (Toolstation 93058) is really for water hammer (usually due to unclipped pipes) and its only a type of expansion vessel - not really for you in this case. Its easy to 'tee' them into the system though.

is it poss that it might be too much pressure and that it could be turned back a little at the mains, if not i'll have a look about.

If you are getting a vibration through the pipe when the hot tap is turned on and it is a cylinder system then it is usually a faulty ball valve on the tank in loft change it
