Libya overall has done very well under Col. G. True that he is stinking rich, but then they have loads of oil, and he has pumped lots of that revenue back into the country's infrastructure (Lots of which, which we have just bombed) plus, housing, education and vast engineering projects to bring water from under the desert to the cities and towns. There is very little in the way of poverty, and the literacy rate is 82% (the highest of any African country and probably higher than parts of the UK!)
These rebels seem to be biting the hand that feeds, and I think this rebellion, if successful will come to be seen as a big mistake.
Why we had to get involved? Oil/revenge.
The country will likely be at war/in tatters for years to come. Divide and conquer is a great strategy, we have divided them, now the corporations will benefit from cheaper oil.

Good points Deluks. Libya has done well over the years. I know a couple of Libyan students and they are full of praise to Gaddafi and see him as a hero, saying he has looked after Libyans, developed the country very well, built a fantastic infrastructure and most people have lived good lives.
I also agree 100% of the colonial/imperialist mindset of divide and conquer. They have managed to turn the Libyans against one another and now they are killing their fellow countrymen. Nato should be ashamed of themselves for once again meddling in the internal affairs of a country for their own selfish ends.

They have known extremist radicals in the midst, alone with known battle hardened Al-Qaeda fighters who have trained and fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been numerous reports (not from the BBC or Sky surprise surprise) about the disgraceful actions of these rebels include mass rape of women from pro-gaddafi families, along with killing of civilians en masse.
Add to this the farcical claims of the rebels that they had captured Saif-Al_islam, with the ICC even confirming this, only for Saif to turn up at a hotel waving to cheering crowds along with their dubious claims of controlling 95% of a capital swarming with large numbers of Libyan special forces just goes to show the rebels are a bunch of unprofessional violent rag tag extremists/merceneries who cannot be trusted.

Another thing I'm suprised about, is the lack of reporting on casualties. Why have we seen no footage of bodies, cos they must be piling up in great numbers by now. All we are seeing is footage of blokes in pick-up trucks shaking their rifles above their heads, and people in tracksuits running about with AK47's that seem to be taking potshots at nothing at all.

again agree completely. Reports from reporters, medical staff, aid workers etc seem to indicate their are many dead in Tripoli, including a number of civilians. Yet the western press seem to largely complety ignore this. Makes you wonder how fair and balanced the BBC, Sky etc really are. If anything it looks like they are pushing an agenda. They have the military and government peddling one line, and i get the feeling the media are expected to tow the line and get on board.
Why also, have we seen almost NO footage of Gaddafi's fighters? Its like they are trying to dehumanise the Gaddafi forces by not showing them?

Odd isn't it how some seem to know everything about certain elements involved in the fighting then go on to critisise the press (in general) for not reporting on the many issues there.
And why are the reporters not showing all the gory bits and the forces loyal to Gadaffi?

Ironnaz is criticising the west for giving support to the rebels. You can bet your ass he'd be on here screaming about it if the west had stayed completely out of it while Gaddafi was killing muslims. Typical muslim.

Ahh,, seems like there's a lot of misinformation here. Wherever there's a war or strife going on, there's always some news reporter mentioning the rape of women, the looting and en-masse killing of innocent civilians. Do we ever get proof of these rapes, looting and killings after the event?
No we don't . it's all deliberately put into the news to either keep us interested, or,,,,,,,,, fed to the locals to try and keep them on the side of the oppressors.
