Lets face it,, the Arab League are about as cohesive as a tube of Pritt Stick.

Good points Deluks. Libya has done well over the years. I know a couple of Libyan students and they are full of praise to Gaddafi and see him as a hero, saying he has looked after Libyans, developed the country very well, built a fantastic infrastructure and most people have lived good lives.

I also agree 100% of the colonial/imperialist mindset of divide and conquer. They have managed to turn the Libyans against one another and now they are killing their fellow countrymen. Nato should be ashamed of themselves for once again meddling in the internal affairs of a country for their own selfish ends.

For a start the rebels are not a wholesome bunch of people. They have known extremist radicals in the midst, alone with known battle hardened Al-Qaeda fighters who have trained and fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. There have been numerous reports (not from the BBC or Sky surprise surprise) about the disgraceful actions of these rebels include mass rape of women from pro-gaddafi families, along with killing of civilians en masse.

Add to this the farcical claims of the rebels that they had captured Saif-Al_islam, with the ICC even confirming this, only for Saif to turn up at a hotel waving to cheering crowds along with their dubious claims of controlling 95% of a capital swarming with large numbers of Libyan special forces just goes to show the rebels are a bunch of unprofessional violent rag tag extremists/merceneries who cannot be trusted.
Just shows that the Pro Gaddafi mob disappeared into the sunset to get some grub after the so called rebels stormed his stronghold. How can you criticise the Beeb or Sky for not showing them? They were nowhere to be seen.

It shows how biassed the newschannels are over here, when they go round, smirking and smiling, when with 'rebel' forces, but when they misreport, ie Gadaffis son has been captured/killed...the next report is he may have escaped, then the next he is on the back of a truck rallying his supporters. So which version of the truth are we to believe?

If Tripoli is overrun by rebels, then why are the journalists holed up in the hotel, not reporting without restrictions?

The newschannels are like vultures circling, repeatedly showing feeds from earlier, as they are making it up. They don't know. It's stalemate. Until, as I said earlier in the thread, somebody makes a massive statement. SCUDS have been fired, but seem to have been made in a shed by someone at the weekend, Qatar have stepped up to the plate, has have the UAE, plenty money there, must have access to a nuke or two. That would solve a long bloody mess, but cause a huge bloody pulverised mess. If indeed the Mad as a box of frogs Gadaiffi is still there.

Can anyone else see a way out of the political vacuum? It seems like the main candidates, would not want the job anyway. Who does it fall to then? us? That's a whole new box of chocolates..Afgan, Iraq, Vietnam even for the Americans ouch!

There's a whole new bunch of potential terrorists, running around, shooting at sky, angry young men, that don't understand what they are fighting for, as they knew no different, all they see if NATO planes killed their mates, they have arms. Guess what happens next?

Surely Qatar should be booted out as a World Cup provider, as a) They don't have any football stadia, b) They provide resources in what would be described as a civil war? c) It's too hot to play football there in the summer.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Can anybody explain the above dribble in laymans terms please.
Nukes and the Football world cup???

And why aren't journalists walking around unhindered??
Because it ain't fckin safe to do so!!!!

It's health & safety gone mad again!

You'd think there would be some journo's willing to run about with a camera, it's their job to be nosey.

The fact is, there probably isn't much fighting going on. We are just ahead of the rebels, bombing and using the Apache's to clear their path so they can advance.

This isn't an uprising, it's a war against Libya led by the more sinister elements of NATO, under the guise of "bunch of teenagers with rifles, pickup trucks, and no training taking on their own government forces"

Nice to know we can afford this war but can't even police our own streets.

If Sky and the Beeb are biased - then also too is al-Jazeera news channel cuz there is no coverage on there either. Why is that IronNaz?

simple. Al-Jazeera are based in Qatar. Its now come out that Qatari special forces are in Libya, in TRIPOLI helping the rebels. So with that it mind, Qatar based Aljazeera will hardly report in a manner which is pro- or sympathetic towards the forces that Qatars elite forces are fighting.

It's the same on Russia Today. I guess they are in league too eh?

Yes, you are entirely correct to say that propaganda utilises highly selective and biased events to report on

Insightful analysis indeed. Not sure about the use of the nuclear option since this would be a punitive and not necessarily a utilitarian political nor military aid towards a solution

The Italians and French still have a degree of influence in the area, so maybe they will step up to the mark

There's a whole new bunch of potential terrorists, running around, shooting at sky, angry young men, that don't understand what they are fighting for, as they knew no different, all they see if NATO planes killed their mates, they have arms. Guess what happens next?
Extremely good point indeed. This is where you having such a sharp mind coupled with your relentless search for detailed and factual evidence really pays off :) I wish I had your eidetic memory.

oyer et terminer again, eh? Awesome :)

as for the arab league, that is simply a league of despots, dictators and unelected monarchs imposed on the middle east and propped up by western powers.

Do you hate the west?

Nope. Just stating some uncomfortable home truths.

The middle east was carved up in the latter days of the empires of the west, with compliant brutal dictators installed to do the dirty work of the west, for the benefit of the west, regardless of the impact on the natives of these newly formed countries/monarchy's.

Just out of curiosity, were you born here?

Yes.

BUT i have a lot of family in the middle east and asia and therefore what happens there concerns me directly as my brothers, neices, nephews, and close cousins are directly affected.

A lot of people here in the UK have no family ties to these far off lands and therefore its understandable that it wouldnt really concern you much what happens there. Its just a 5 minute story you hear on the news.

But for those off us that have roots in these places, these are not mysterious far away lands, these are the homelands of our family, affecting our loved ones and therefore is far more important to us.
