hotmail scam

I don't know if there is some sort of scam surrounding hotmail...but I just tried to sign in and kept getting blocked...eventually was asked to give loads of info...only cottoned on at the end when they asked for card details.
I checked on the net and couldn't see any 'alerts' has anyone heard of this.

Yeah, this is quite common, especially through dodgy emails going on about your account being accessed from abroad etc. and you need to click on a dodgy link and enter your password to "reactivate" your account. ALL A PHISHING SCAM, for anyone reading this, never give passwords out when your need to "reactivate an account within the next 24hrs!!" etc etc.

Best thing to do now is log in to Hotmail using the proper URL
https://login.live.com and change your password IMMEDIATELY

-> click on drop down arrow, top right next to your username
-> Options
-> click on "Password", under account tab

Hi Andrew...but this wasn't a dodgy email...I just did the usual...typed hotmail into Google and did the usual to log in and it just kept saying wrong password...till I eventually clicked on a link 'customer services' as I was getting a bit desperate. Then it started asking for all the details.

Very strange really...but yes, I have changed my password and security question.

It is very cleverly done and asked loads of questions which I now wish I hadn't answered ...duh....should know better !!!!!!!

no problem, it annoys the hell out of me. that and the "Lloyds TSB bank alert" ..... didn't catch me on that one, I'm not even with Lloyds!

But yes, it is very easy for a person to slip into one of these traps, the best thing to do is verify the https entity of the url to ensure it is the actual genuine site, although I'm sure the people behind these attacks will find a way around this too

Malware providers often exploit google spiders/bots to enable a potentially dangerous (as regards malware/spyware etc) sit to get a high ranking.

Normally these are quashed fairly quickly by google (especially in this case as they have scripts to monitor web content in their top hit list for malicious code)

However some get through, you should keep asking yourself if the website you are visiting is malicious not that it seems ok.

Thank you, you are right of course I should be more careful....I suppose when you have done something for so long you just accept it as being ok....but I was stupid to keep answering those questions....grrrrrr......very annoyed with myself

it also may be a good idea to run malwarebytes, just in case
