Mr Puller, do you know if Tomplumb is still with us?

Eeee, I remember back in the '70's when the average price of an install was £500, i used to fit glowworms then, the spacesavers, and i bought so many, that glowworm took myself and other installers on a free spanish holiday, also the overheads were less, it was't law to be corgi, no acs, no cc/ccc's nobody wanted to be plumbers then, we had't made the sun newspaper, and you had to be a plumber to fit heating cos there was a good chance there was a lead main somewhere, and there was no such thing as a leadloc,

those where the days hey dickie,

How about the early 60s when the smallest and biggest Fords had vacuum wipers and three speed gearboxes? [Only the Anglias had four speeds and electric wipers.]

Or the early 50s when they were relaying the road with a Sentinel steam lorry?

I stopped doing boilers regularly in about 2003/4. We did a B bLr out, and fit a Baxi solo 40 or 50 RS plus convert to fully pump. Standard charge £1650. One most weeks, and I could earn more by changeovers than full heating. Employed 1 subbie for 2 days at a grate rate, and charged him out at my rate. Father in law worked cash in hand as gofer. On top we nearly always supplied and fitted full gas fireplace, at proper retail prices, before the internet got in the act. I did fireplace and gas, pumber did wet.

Good days, now earning less than half :( , but still won't, or need to, work for some of the stupid low rates mentioned on this forum :)

Having done the CG6129 initially with an eye of becoming a CCC, but completing it out of interest and as a personal challenge since I'd returned to my true calling in life  , I can honestly say that your slightly scathing appraisal of such people is entirely justified :)

Although, to be fair, my pipework at home is stiil far better than anyone else's I've seen
