Hi my fan went on my baxi boiler wm 70/4 so it would not ignite the gas as the fan was broke, so I took the fan out and had a look and as I manually turned the fan myself I noticed a little bit of resistance in turning so I gave the bearings a good blow out or clean then sprayed with WD 40 into the bearings to loosen them up and WOOHOO it worked connected the fan back up now the fan fires up and ignites the gas. But I want to know is how to do a service on the baxi boiler myself as in cleaning the inside of any soot or debris, can't find anything on web is it just a case of taking the front offf the boiler and giving it a good clean.
Any help apprieated thanks

We don't give advice on gas work on this site, if you need to ask basic questions like this then you are not competent, if you are not competent then you cannot legally carry out gas work, and this includes servicing

Hi don't want to touch the gas I will isolate the electric and gas I just want to give it a good clean if need be??

I don't think you understand. If you're entering the combustion chamber then you are engaging in gas work, for which you must be competent. You have probably already done much more than you should, having read your first post.

The fan had nothing to do with gas it was just disassemble and reassemble as it stopped working easy thing to do, but if your saying opening the front interferes with the gas then I will stay away!

Yes I am saying that, so please leave it alone and get someone competent to do the work

Ok with your advice I will stay away, there is nothing wrong with the boiler after the fan was fixed I just thought I would give it a good clean if need be but working perfect at the moment so I will stay away on your advice thanks for the help I will put the outer cover back on cheers

How can you service the boiler without cracking a union to remove the burner?

What do you do when your car needs a service.... clean it?

The fan hasn't been fixed.

Spraying WD40 into bearings of any kind washes the grease away, with the result that the bearing will now wear out in no time.
A new fan is inevitable.

Sorry forgot to say I regreased the bearings after cleaning so hopefully a new fan is not inevitable cheers

Aubrey, the expression "gas work" covers anything which is involved in the gas train and the safety devices associated with combustion.

In boilers that can include the gas valve, thermocouple, PCB, ignition electrode, flame sensing electrode, fan, flue, air pressure switch or sensor etc.

Also included are the case seals. These should NOT be opened by someone who is not Gas Registered as they will not be able to test the security of the seal when its reclosed.

Gotcha thanks for that but I did get a new gasket before I put the fan back on so the seal should be fine, thanks for clarifying and after all the advice I will not be touching the combustion chamber
