A Dwarf went to the Doctors.

"Do you treat Dwarves?" He asked.

Doctor replies

"Yes but you'll have to be a little patient......"

Why do you think it acceptable to mock people with genetic disabilities?

I don't- why do you think I am mocking dwarves?

Is dwarfism a disability? Is a joke about a horse in a bar mocking horses?

Ok let's change it a little.

A Black man went to the Doctors.

"Do you treat Black men?" He asked.

Doctor replies

"Yes but not when it gets dark......"

Funny eh?

No not funny- the joke I posted was A PUN!. (A play on words)

If it offended you or anyone else I apologise unreservedly.

I'm not saying you did it to offend anyone as we all grew up on 'Irish Jokes'. It's just that jokes on dwarfism, Downes Syndrome etc really should be shelved if you think about it.

It's funny isn't it? How jokes have that unique ability to bypass our common sense filter. We all do it. We don't mean any harm - yet when we stand back and look we find we've said things that we really didn't mean to say. No-one is saying you are a bad guy or anything.

I am sure it wasn't meant offensively....and seemed a very harmless little joke.
Was it 'mocking' to me the answer is no....but there you go, we all have different opinions.
As I got into big trouble for telling an Irish joke on here....maybe its me.

As you say everyone is different. My Father used to tell Irish jokes and he was Irish! (County Mayo)

I remember a nurse being sacked for referring to an Asian patient as Mrs Popadom. I doubt she meant any harm either.

I think you have to remember Joe that having a disability, or being fat or thin, short or tall, Irish, English, or Asian, or having, or being, any one of the myriad of things that jokes are told about does not necessarily mean that at the same time you acquire a sense of humour bypass.

I know a joke about a kid with Downes (from 40 years ago) but I wouldn't find it funny today. Would you tell a racist joke Susie? If not - why not?

Joe ..... is every joke about a white man racist ..... is every joke about about a black man racist ..... I think it really is down to the 'intention' if you are deliberately trying to cast a slur on someone and be insulting, then no its not nice.
But light-hearted fun...have we lost the ability just to laugh at ourselves a little.... does it always have to cause offence.

I watched "Lifes Too Short" last night with Johnny Depp and others using dwarfism for laughs and thought it was brilliant comedy. Kind of puts Biker1959's joke into context, not so offensive if you put the two side by side.

Dwarf on a pole
