Hi there,

I have a ADE - RESON8 bell box which I supposed to display a flashing, alternating LED to indicate that it is active. It does, but the intensity of the LED is so minimal that they are not visible.

Is there anything I can do to increase the brightness / visibility?

Thanks

Look at them in the dark.

They are small led`s and will not be very visible in daylight.

Yep, been there, done that. I know they are small but the dark blue cover virtually obliterates the LED output. If you look at the alarm at night, there is virtually no indication that the alarm is active.

Standing immediately below the alarm, it is just about possible to discern the LEDs, but from the street, no way.

Just a thought, are the leds protruding correctly from the fascia of the bell box pcb (is it possible the 'legs' of the leds have been compressed thereby reducing the length of them / distorting them etc?).

This is the most likely scenario.

That's something I had not thought about. When SWMBO is not around, I will clamber up and check it out.

SWMBO gets very jittery if I am more than one meter above the ground!

!! Be careful though Rex, and be ready for the alarm to trigger when you start removing the cover of the bell box - the anti tamper will detect the screw / cover is being removed and will trigger the alarm - it could make you 'jump' and when up a ladder you don't want any surprises like that.

Good point which I did not consider. May be I can talk SWMBO to sand below and catch me!

Perhaps the best way would be to turn off the power, remove the control panel cover and disconnect the battery before shimming up the ladder.

OK, then I guess I will just have to wear my ear protectors.

You probably can't, but could you reach the bell box from a window?

Once the alarm triggers you then silence it as normal from the control panel. The panel will show the tamper circuit has activated, but at least you won't have a siren wallowing in your ears!

Go on, explain how that works.

As stated, that's how mine works Alarm

another approach Rex could be to have your ladders in place, set the alarm and then trigger it by opening a door, then go up the ladder and remove the cover. At least you wont get the surprise of the alarm triggering whilst you are up the ladder.

If you need to adjust the leds etc, you could first off all disconnect one of the leads to the siren to shut it up (obviously you will set the alarm off again when you reconnect the lead, but at least you will know when it is going to happen, thereby preventing any surprises) !!
