Hi am lv2 2330 qualified student.
I looking to do a loft conversion for some extra storage space. I have already added an extra junction box of an existing one. I was wondering if the switching arrangement is the same as a ceiling rose i.e. loop, live and neutral. If not how would I wire it to a switch then? It's just I never wired one before.

Wiki at the top of the forum shows diagrams.

Did the module not teach research or use of references?
Only asking.

Fluorescent luminaires usually are only fitted with a block of three connectors, one of which is connected to the metalwork.

You can wire it however you want - loop or from switch.

I don't see the need for a second junction box

It is the same process as wiring the power through the switch (remember neutral in a terminal block), which you will have done during the practical exercises on 2330 level 2. So line, netural and earth from your power source could be one of the ceiling roses in the ceiling of the top floor, through the switch and onto the first luminaire. You need to arrive at the first luminarie with line, neutral and earth.
If you used jb's for this process during your practical you would/should have been penalised - because you are adding an uncessary joint into the circuit.

This is utterly barmy.

How can anybody have passed 2330 and yet know so little about basic circuits and 1-way switches that they can't install a simple light?
