Hi all, belong to a club which is Local councill owned but leased out, they have asked me to put up a dart board under a lamp on the wall, but the lamp is to low. I have removed the lamp but in doing so discoverd that it's on a switched spur off the ring main, now I know in the past this was done a lot, but am I right in saying that if this light is moved or the cable extended to move the light higher I will be responsible for leaving the spur, as it's not legal today. I am not a qualified electrician, just a retired builder. Thanks for your time.

Lower the floor

No you can have a single spur of the ring final circuit but not more than one without incorporating an FCU.
How is the lamp wired to the circuit? Via a 3Amp plug?

Yes it's similar to the second one with the switch, thanks for your input and time.

there to protect the cable.
Indeed but.
If the cable is capable of carrying 6A (or more) then a 5A fuse is satisfactory.
Following that logic when using 1mm2 cable clipped direct we should use a 13 Amp fuse!
Nah, I was always taught to use the smallest fuse and still standby my advice regarding a 3Amp fuse for this particular dart board light. Same cable bigger light might use a 5Amp; - but it would have to be a bloody big light.

It's not logic. You could. That's how it works.

OP will think it was installed incorrectly but it's fine.

500mA fuse then.

No tried them, they don't half rattle about in the jaws of fcu fuse holder - but do create a pleasant  odour when energised.
