I think I'd put them pretty much central in the main part of the room, e.g. in line with the middle of the towel rail with the gaps between them and to the walls equal.

And 3 dimmable wall lights - one each side of the window and one on the wall above the end of the bath at the door end.

OK. The shower is a 900 quadrant, and the towel radiator is 600 wide, so the centre of the radiator will be a shade over 1200, while that wall is 2.21 long.

So, as far as looks go, that's pretty much central.

So the fittings would be both 84.67cm from the the walls and apart from each other?

I plumped for that originally, and in practice, they look too close together....

The shower doesn't need the light, the bath basins and wc do, for reading pron.

So unless you intend to pepper the walls with additional lighting I'd draw a line between the bath plug and the towel rad, then place one on that line, at the edge of the rhs of the rhs basin and one on the Lhs edge of the lhs basin.

That prevent shadows at the basins, and gives comfortable lighting to th wc, bath and the shower.

Wall material does come in to it, white is good, black is bad.

I didn't reply to Ban re the walls.

We're not having wall lighting as such, but may have a cabinet with a CFL that is controlled via a second pullcord by the door.

There won't be any "pron", but will be lots of other material read on the WC.

As for the decor, the ceiling will be white, and the walls white.

The tiling willl be mostly white with a light green mosaic border and a vertical "stripe" in the shower cubicle.

Well if you tried it and didn't like it, don't do it again

Chri5's placement was pretty similar - just each one pushed out a little towards the walls, which should sort out the "too close together" problem...

I`d say make the first approximation 1 - 2 - 1 spaces from wall to wall and see how it looks rather than 1 - 1 - 1 spacing.

usually you`d space this among the longest dimension in order to get even illumination. Not having a square room or an oblong room rather beggars this up a bit, then you gotta think of shadows so maybe rethink the whole spacing anyway.

Sometimes rather than get things nearly symmetrical but not quite then they actually look better not anywhere near symmetrical instead.

Then you gotta think of what needs highlighting and what does not.

Good luck

OK. Thanks. So that gives me 635 in from each end. I'll try that.

And if I don't like that I'll try Ban's idea again.

And if I don't like that, I'll split the difference.

And if I don't like that.....guys? ;)

While I'm pootling about in the loft, I'm thinking of a ceiling-mounted recessed radio kit.

Any of you lot got one?

Any good?

What would you recommend?

At least there`s one consolation!
(I don`t know what it is but there always is one!)

Oh yes I know - At least it`s not recessed lighting - you`d go thru all that and mark the centres then find some are too near battens, joists, pipes, water closets etc etc and have to start again!

I'm just refurbing our ensuite and have installed one of THESE and really like it. The speakers aren't huge but its got good sound plus an aux input for yer iPod, etc.

If you want to go exotic and hook up to your PC digital music collection/Internet radio etc then have a look at the SONOS systems.

Cheers guys.

ebee: don't hate them as much as Ban, but I don't like them much... ;)

333: not even thought of that!

TTC: SONOS good.....SONOS expensive......!! But thanks for the link on the other stuff.

"ebee: don't hate them as much as Ban, but I don't like them much..."

That could be read two ways:-

1/ You don`t hate them as much as you hate Ban or
2/ You don`t hate them as much as Ban hates them.

:D

I`ll assume 2/

Yeaaaah.........moooooovinnnng onnnnnn........

;)

No, you're right. It's 2. ;)

As I need a wall-mounted cabinet (with mirror front & make-up lighting) & a night-type light & a shaver socket and a radio and a wall-mounted clock, I was wondering if I could kill all these birds with one stone?

I can find:

Mirrors with lights.

Mirrors with lights & clocks.

Cabinets with mirrors and lights.

Cabinets with mirrors, lights and shaver sockets.

I have not yet found a cabinet with mirror front, lighting (pref. CFL), a shaver socket, plus a radio and a digi clock built in...

Not to mention it cannot be more than 650mm wide. Tall as you like though!

To adapt a famous saying: "I am just going online and may be some time...."
