What are these old plumbers tools ?

We used the bent bolt to straighten short lengths of lead pipeing , a yarn/lead caulking tool was used to open the pipe when wiping branch joints as it was easily managed unlike the bent bolt (heavy) , how did you manage to get a nice neat 'uniform' branch joint without the used of a scribing plate and compass.? ;)

Good to see Geewizz being an a**e again

Seems you've done that all by yourself by not knowing what a scribing plate was used for , did you ever wipe any joints DIA? (don't answer that )

Great thread!! I wiped plenty ball joints as an apprentice, one on the bench & one under the bench.

OMG!! What a skilled trade I joined in the early 70s. Look at us now? Full of unskilled morons that have trained for a few week & can just manage to push a few plastic pipes together, but only just!!

OP it was a serious offer & it is only on the table for 2 days.

Yes it was a skilled trade (shame  ) , always used a clamp when wipeing a underhand/overhand/taft etc , although very difficult using a pipe clamp when rolling a joint across the bench , each time the clamp came around it would knock the fustion cloth out yer hand and fall off the pipe.

Ok, what was the name of the little doobrie we used to hold a brass spigot in the end of a lead pipe while it was being soldered?
Two teethy bits expanded and it pulled the spigot/valve or whatever, in.

Can't remember it. It's on the tip of me moleskin.
