Hi i am knocking down my garage and need to remove the electrics.As far as i can see the garage electrics are connected to a double socket in the kitchen,so therefore i think i just need to disconnect the garage wires from that socket.Is that correct?I don't think i will be able to remove the wiring completely as they are buried into the kitchen wall.Is that ok to leave them?john

I assume this cable to the garage is a spur and the garage is an integral part of the house and not detached.
First you need to confirm that the kitchen socket is supplying the feed to garage, once you have confirmed that this is the supply to garage and this part of the circuit is solely supplying the garage, you can then disconnect the cables from that socket. Remember to use safe isolation procedures and approved test equipment.
Once the cable is disconnected and this part of circuit is going to be redundant, I would cut the cable back so they cannot be re energised and remove as much of the redundant cable as practically possible.
It is obvious and unavoidable that some cables will be still within the fabric of the building but these cables are now dead, redundant and safe to leave.
Make sure once you have disconnect the cables, that you reconnect the reminding cables and everything is as it should be.

No the garage is detached.Does that make a difference?
No
No it does not, but it should rule out the likelihood of the circuit returning back to the house, via the garage to offer power elsewhere.

Agreed, I make this a requirement at work, all disconnected cables must have all conductors shorted together
Line, neutral and cpc.
