To save you working it out. an Oz GP earns $80K Aus Dollars which equals £51K.

The average wage in Oz is $40K so a doctor earns double the average wage.

In the UK the average wage is about £26K - so a GP earns well over 4 times the average wage at £120K.

Why is that? The cost of living is far higher in Oz too.

Not sure where you got the figures from the average salary in OZ?

Tha average salary of OZ is around $100'000!

The average wage for someone working in a call centre is over $50'000 pa

Show us the link then. I showed you the link re drs pay.

snico, your link says "data from advertised jobs "

that's not an accurate way to determine average earnings.

You can get a fairly reliable figure from the income tax authority.

Its very accurate because it gives offered salaries without perks and bonus' across all industry sectors.

no, it isn't accurate, because it doesn't include pay for jobs which were not advertised in whatever publication they were looking.

It is weighted by number of ads, not by number of people per pay rate.

It is simply a silly way to pretend you can find out average earnings.

Sorry.

You might be able to get some sensible figures from an OECD survey. Somewhere like http://www.oecd.org/document/29/0,3746,en_2649_33933_39618653_1_1_1_1,00.html perhaps.

or possibly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_average_wage

Full-time earnings in Australia averaged A$68,791 a year in the third quarter of 2011

The average full-time male salary (excluding overtime) in Australia is A$73,700 per annum

The average full-time female salary in Australia (excluding overtime) is A$60,611 per annum.

Australia's minimum wage is $15.51 per hour or $589.30 per week, so a person working on minimum wage will earn just over $30k pa.

Full-time earnings in Australia averaged .....

What is the source for your figures? And what does that source say for the UK?

What made you decide that a person in Australia on minimum wage works 38 hours a week, every week?

All the info is there online to look at

The average working week in Australia is 36 hours.
