We're looking to remove x2 old down-lighters out of a room in the house we've just purchased. All 3 ceiling lights are controlled off the same switch.

Is it good practise to remove all the wiring as opposed to cutting and taping them off either end? I'm reasonably new to all of this, but feel competent enough to do it with advice!

Thanks

It is always best to remove old wiring, That way there is never any confusion in the future.

You should remove the redundant wiring if possible.

Taping up the ends of live cables is not acceptable - the tape dries out and falls off.

 Don't forget to make notes / take pictures of what connections go where before you start, just in case things are't connected the way you think they are.
If you've got notes, you probably won't need them, but if you haven't, you will....
