Ahh, you got the kids wanting to make a "Cart" . Ideally, you want the wheels off a coach built pram, that has two big wheels and two small ones. A rare beast these days, what with the penchant for strollers and buggies etc.
I remember building a cart when I was a kid. Actually fixing the axles to the cart was something that took the planning and all of the cunning of a seven yr old. (in other words,,, trial and error)

I remember bending nails over the axle to hold the wheels on we used to call them bogie's, you just can't get the wheel's any more.

we called them trolleys.....bogies were something completley different up here.........ewwwww

We called them trollys too, me and my best mate built a powered one, we fitted a Frog 5cc glowplug aero engine on the front, on level ground or downhill it did work, but was not much good on upward sloping ground, twas noisy too!
Would probably get fined by the police if tried today.

You can if you are prepared to pay for them!

Alternatively you could nick a set outside a shop and leave the pram body on a couple of bricks!
For a doll size pram you are looking at £150+ For a proper childs pram, brand new, upwards of a grand!!!

We used to call them Steeries in Liverpool. Same method for fixing the axles, couple of bent over nails. For the steering mechanism a plank with the wheels attached and then a coach bolt through the plank and through the main body of the cart. Steering was effected by a piece of string to two cup hooks bent closed and screwed into the swivelling front wheel plank. The brakes............(wots a brake?????). Pair of shoes with Blakey studs in the heels!!!!

they were called bogies in the part of lancashire where I grew up yorkshire is the same according to the wife

Ah, but Liverpool hasn't been part of Lancashire for quite some time now.
We do like to be different you know.
A great loss to the county ,is that where off your trolley comes from?

Yes. I bought some from a rag-and-bone man for a shilling. Mind you, that was 50 years ago.

Oh yes it is. So is Manchester. We've not seen the last of the original, thousand-year-old counties yet, mark my words.

Where's the HSE when you need them. All this talk of untested self made vehicular devices brings on the collywobbles
