Stop cock/tap?

Hi folks, I need to replace my internal stop tap and was wondering if it would be ok to use one of these

or should it be one of these?

or doesn't it really matter?

Thanks for all your replies, think I'll go with the 1/4 turn Peglar.

On anoher note, the supply pipe is 15mm, is this 'normal'?

Very often it is, yes - black alkathene, blue MDPE and lead could all be used, depending on the age of the installation.

Does that mean if you have a power cut you have no water, or if you have a power cut you can't turn it off?
