Wiring last rose in loop from 2 way. Please Help! WITH pics

If the neutral from the switch is isolated from the switch (crimped onto the black from the cable coming in and passed through without modification... i assume from the 2 way in the wall) then can it still be live?

Have looked at the links but none of the diagrams show any resemblence to what I have?

We need pictures of your wiring both at the ceiling and the switch.

Hello,
Yep the Landing switch is feeding into the rose (not sure if it is very clear). Neutral & earth are crimped and not connected to switch per se. Also attached a pic of hall 2 way (first floor).

Much appreciated!

Does anything obviously wrong leap out? I suppose I could have damaged one of the cables during install but I sincerely doubt it. Cant think of anything else.

...The wiring at the rose looks correct doesnt it????

Looks like I will have to call an electrician!?

Is the Blue wire in the switch just terminated in the choc block? Nothing else connected?

If so I suspect that the brown wire (from the ceiling cables) is your switched live.

Put the black to (pendant) blue. The brown to (pendant) brown. The red to centre (Loop). leave the blue from ceiling loose for testing only.

If that works then I'd choc block and tape the above blue at the rose and push it back into ceiling void

EDIT!! Also the earths should be connected into your back boxes with the correct (green/yellow) sleeving.

Thanks for getting back to me "scoby"

The Blue wire (to pendant) is connected at the block to an incoming black wire.

So Black (cable from previous light) to Blue on pendant(as is)
Brown (from switch) to Brown at pendant
Red (cable from previous light) to loop (as is)
Blue (from switch) disconnected?

Will go and try it now and get back to you....

Many, Many thanks

That (blue) being connected changes things!!

Need to find if its a live or neutral that should've been sleeved!!

What I'm struggling with at the moment is in the hall you have a red and black cable going "upstairs". but on the landing you have 3 core + E coming up.
That is: 1 brown. 1 grey (sleeved brown). 1 black (sleeved??). Oh, and Earth.

Was just about to pull the switch.

Surely there cant be that many ways to wire this. Do I need to get myself a meter... all I have is a srewdriver with a light in it

Gadzooks!! And well you should have the embarrassed smiley Sir!!!

Get yourself a little multimeter. It's so much easier than guessing!

The worst you can do is trip it again.

Yes I'm confused. It's a bit of a nightmare. there are cables of all sorts of sizes and colours all over... cotton and lead coverd as well but hoping they are disconnected. Just trying to take it one ring / loop at a time without going into the unit.

To me it looks like the hall switch has the permanent live ( the wire linking two terminals. Strappers leave the 2 way switch as red and black. These should go to the switch on the landing to L1 and L2, Somewhere the red and black changes to three core so there is a junction box somewhere. The switched live would be from the common of the switch on the landing and should go to the rose and the brown lead of the lamp holder. How the neutral is supplied to the lamp is not clear from the pictures.

The landing switch does not appear to be fitted in a wall but on stud work. Has this switch been moved recently ?

I have a sneaky feeling that at sometime the landing had a borrowed neutral.

This has been changed to a neutral from the downstairs light circuit and hence the addition of a JB somewhere and this "stray" black/blue/neutral.

Yes, I replaced the switch & backbox as in process of replastering. Connections from previous switch have been copied and was working until I removed the old light and replaced switch cable.

Have tried as Scoby suggested:

"Black (cable from previous light) to Blue on pendant(as is)
Brown (from switch) to Brown at pendant
Red (cable from previous light) to loop (as is)
Blue (from switch) disconnected"

and it tripped out..

Have tried the standard connections as shown in the pic, that also trips out.

Any other options I might try?

I'll admit that, without being able to do some tests on this, I am, as they say, up shirt creek without a paddle!! That, and the half doz. pints of Mr. Smiths finest doesn't help!!

Many thanks scoby.. It looks like I will have to get someone out to it. I was going to have someone come around and check my work once I've finished anyway just to be on the safe side.
