My cistern is concealed behind some 12mm plyboard. I wish to replace the syphon and ball valve as the diaphragm is split and its not water efficient.

The lever passes through the plyboard attached to some 2x1" (plyboard removed in photo below)

Can the button of the conversion kit be secured to some 12mm plyboard which covers the cistern behind? There is only a small gap (40mm) between the front of the plastic cistern and the wood in front of it. The button looks quite deep on the photos on various websites.

I cannot put the button on the top of the cistern only at the front.

thanks. [/img]

The OP already has a cistern.

Why not fit the button to the side of the cistern instead of directly in front of it?
As long as the cable does not get kinked and operates freely it will work.

The Fluidmaster cable flush valve is also available with an extended cable - 550mm instead of the standard 350mm.

I would doubt there is room between the cistern and the panel to fit the new button.
Close off the existing hole in the outer panel with a chrome tap hole stopper and relocate the new button to a more convenient place.
