And it's about time you learnt the meaning of 'treasure island' vis-a-vis the uk...

Ah, but the difference between you and me is that I understand why it might be called that, whereas you think it's because Peter Pan lives in London.

The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

The figures are all there . . fixed overheads - variables - oncosts - staff wages - heating light and power - etc etc etc.
I dont want to appear to be pedantic but you have missed probably the most important factor, sales, no good improving productivity if nobody wants to buy the goods.
Lots of businesses who went bust had warehouses full of unsold products.

Exactly. mdf's methods will push up the price of his goods as he pays overtime to his workers. High price for his goods = No sale.
Simples.
Our philosophy is if a worker wants to finish at 6 then its up to him to acheive that. We set the workrate and whats achieavable to beat our competitiors.
If he doesn't finish the job then he keeps working until he does and as I've said if he doesn't like that then he can sling his hook.

I had two very experienced guys last year who refused an order of my making. They were dismissed on the spot and had to walk home.
Complacency gets you no where!

As anyone who has been in/and still is in business knows - you can make as much stuff as you like --just as long as you can keep the stuff moving asap.

Without a good sales force- the chickens can lay eggs 3 times a day and the business will go to the wall--unless the eggs are sold before they are laid .

Of course - all the Hens think they are the most important factor in a business  and the hens are always hungry for more food.
But- as businessman know -= hens are 2 a penny-- even if they are fed several times a day --they will just keep taking the food and getting fatter and lazier .

Sales are paramount .
hens are expendable and easily replaced.

Give them a inch and they WANT a mile .
NO such thing as loyalty for hens .

Very true. The problem with many workers is they get set in their ways and think everything is hunky dory.

Then when stringent action is taken they blame everyone but themselves.
Just have a look at that Stella English bird working for Lord Sugar with her reputation now in tatters.
A job in tescos stacking shelves will probably be her next stop.
The Baroness could teach her a few lessons.

I remember telling my brother how much I was earning back on 06. Told me he wouldn't get out of bed for such a miserly sum.
He took several paycuts since and is now unemployed and I'm still earning. The tortoise always wins in the end.

Very true too my friend, BUT
regarding Sur/Lordy Alan Sugar--he really is a rough old barrow boy -truth be told.
How such a blaggart and very coarse man came to be a Lord is amazing . I'd gess a few million ££s helped him a lot though.
He really has the manners of a pig .
I'm certainly not standing up for that Stella bird - she was just caught up in Sugars 'I'm the man' trail'.
Seduced by a blagger who promised the winner of his show 'the earth' '''just as long as the show lasted' and as long as he could belittle the people who were involved in it .
Once a barrow boy- always a barrow boy- nomatter how much money he has .
You can take the boy out of the slum but the slum is always a part of him.

Never mentioned paying overtime at all!!???

In fact my very first post was to make what you can by NOT paying overtime and simply change your labour force to suit so everything is made at standard rate.!!

I mentioned profit sharing which DOES NOT put up the price of goods as the increased productivity (more stuff made in same timeframe) covers the cost and also increases profit.

Increasing productivity actually makes your factory gate price cheaper.

You still haven't grasped that principle.

on the subject of "thatcher dead" an interesting piece here

"But the right refuses to understand why, more than two decades after she was deposed, Thatcher is still despised by a large chunk of the population. ....

...A reasonable right-winger would accept that her 11-year rule opened up the greatest divisions Britain has experienced in modern times. Whether or not they regard that as unavoidable, they would realise that Thatcher-hate is just one manifestation of it. Perhaps if a Labour government had reduced the prosperous middle-classes of the Home Counties to mass unemployment and poverty, and stockbrokers desperate to save their livelihoods had been chased by police on horseback through the City of London, they would understand the bitterness"
