Outside Light Location

I am looking into fitting an outside light for the front door.
The house is a bungalow, so it would be close to the soffit.
It would also be on the 2nd. layer of bricks from the top of the outside wall. I was going to drill the mortar for fixing screws.
The thing is, if I do that, would that break the mortar and loosen the brickwork? it's not a big light. just a smallish decorative type.

Could you not go up into the soffit instead of having to drill the brickwork?

No I can't. the soffit is made of asbestos.

It should be OK, but drill with no hammer if you want to be careful
