Got a customer that has trouble with neighbour climbing over fence. What he wants is:

Some kind of exterior camera that will activate when intruder present, take video and alert him direct to his phone so he can see what's going on.

Is there such a thing?

If not - how would you go about sorting it?

Cheers guys, CCTV isn't one of the things I normally do - so keep it simple please.

Change the fence for a pyracantha hedge, bit of time to grow, but that will stop anyone.

I've got a big one to cut this morning, not looking forward to it.

If I understand you correctly, I think the phone bandwidth is not wide enough for video signals.

Anti climb paint on the top 75mm of fence, it stopped the problems around my area.

Can be bought from screwfix.

Really??
How do we all manage to get multiple camera streams to our mobiles then?
My bad, the voice bandwidth is only a few kHz.
One of these days I'll actually have to buy a cellphone but I just can't imagine how they get all those vacuum tubes (valves?) into that little thing. :D

Sorry for being thick, but I am guessing that it needs some kind of power source. Is that a supply from a router? Or is it a 9 volt plug in type thing like a phone charger? Does the unit send a signal to a router which then sends the video stream to a cloud router that is then accessed by the mobile app? Sorry for the dumb questions but I've never even looked at this type of technology in the past.

Never thought of that. Sounds like a good plan. If it worked in one area then it should work in another. Messy stuff to get all over you.

BTW, is it normal practice to put up warning signs? I've never seen a sign where I've seen this stuff used so I guess it is just if it is onto a footpath or highway.

You are meant to put signs up, but the way I looked at it was if you are climbing over a fence that you shouldn't be then Tough! You could also plant some Pyracantha.

The cameras are PoE powered, but you need to have either a PoE switch/router or whatever. Most home routers aren't.

On my cameras at home, there's an alarm output, and when used with motion detection, can be used to send an alert via e-mail when motion is detected.

I don't usually have it on, but is useful when you go away and you know nobody should be pottering round your back garden.

Edit: So to answer your original question, if your client has e-mail to his phone, and a compatible camera, then viola!

Think they do a poe option, if not just use a poe injector.
Router/switch - injector -camera
set up accordingly and should be good to go.

Yeah well I don't really want the job and he doesn't really want to pay for what is just a niggling nuisance from a neighbour. I'll try to talk him into a physical cure or maybe infra-red beams connected into his house alarm. I just need to be able to tell him or offer him something.

What sort of kit should I be looking at to get something decent?
