Hello everyone.

I have some specific w/l/h requirements for my bathtub that is making me think I am going to have to build it myself. Instead of the mass produced white acrylic bath tubs, I want to create a clear acrylic tub similar to this..

But with dimensions 1.6mx1.1mx1.0m and instead of welding it together, using strong bolts/screws so that I can disassemble and move it every few years.

I am lost at where to go to find information on how to do this.. would really appreciate your help.

Clear acrylic bathtub?

Surely after a while it'll either end up opaque due to hard water or opaque due to scrubbing it clean.

The thing in the image looks more like a torture device than a bath tub. Get real and buy a shower cubicle.

Probably cheaper to buy one. The OP is nuts. Its not like MDF where you can screw into the end of the panels. Oh yea its gonna have water in it too.

Mended that for you
instead of welding it together, using strong bolts/screws and some kind of magic sealant that looks pretty so that I can disassemble and take it down the stairs and sling it in a skip in a few weeks time because its leaking.

Haha thanks guys. Very funny. :)

So if acrylic is off the table, what about just taking one of those fabric outdoor pools and putting it into an acrylic box to make it seem like the acrylic is holding water?

Do you guys know if it's possible for me to get a hold of the frame parts and liner separately? Is there any clear liners? :)

Why do you need to take it apart to move it? A normal sized tub can be replaced through a regular sized door.

Plenty of acrylic fish tanks that don't become opaque with time (despite cleaning algae off them) and hold much more water than a tub.

Can a Fish tank be used for a bathtub??? Also... one of the dimensions of the bath I want to build must be smaller then the width of the door but the bath I want to build has all dimensions > 90cm so..... ??

Also.. I appreciate the comedy but I really would like to figure out some sort of solution to create something approximate to what I want to build..

Is the idea to see your wife/girlfriend in the bath and post a pic on Facebook.?

Have you thought of building something out of glass bricks?

Anyway, it's a bit of a loony idea I'm afraid. Clear bath is one thing, clear bath that can be disassembled and reassembled, quite another.

Are there any sort of clear plastics/fabrics that might be useable? Something similar to the above-ground fabric pools they sell for like $200?

Acrylic is the way to go. But you're on a hiding to nothing if you think you'll be able to buy some panels and seal them up like you're making an MDF bookcase.

Freddy, if acrylic is out of the question, is there not any sort of tough clear plastic/material that could be used instead?

A tough clear plastic material? That would be acrylic.

To achieve the kind of seal that will cope with everything it needs to cope with and not look a dogs dinner will require the materials/experience of the manufacturers of these kind of baths. Its not impossible by any means, you have the photo to prove it, its just that I think you really are kidding yourself if you think this can be achieved by DIY.

Part of my job involves aquariums and acrylic panels are used for the tanks, there is enough head scratching, tapping into years of experience and use of specialist manufacturing techniques and sealants etc within this niche industry that tells me that trying to DIY make a bathtub without access to this knowledge etc just ain't gonna happen.
