Hi,
I wish to put a ceiling speaker in my bathroom during its refurb. It would just be 1 speaker so ideally it would go dead centre but there is a joist running across the width of the room dead centre.
It's first floor so the only space above it is loft crawl sapce that gets christmas decorations and the like thrown up there.
It is roughly 700mm from the edge of the room, so an extra 100 of joist sitting on the inner brick leaf maybe.
Is it acceptable to trim it as per this link I found?

Lot of work for one speaker mind you.
