Heheh. Thanks, what a difference the bit made. Had a bit of a faf with one screw, I must've drilled at an angle or something, got there in the end though. As I said, shelves next, so standby for some remedial questioning on that.

So it was the DRILL BIT after all. Well fancy that. Who would have guessed?

I used a 3mm bit then a 7mm one.

Seems the technique adopted was possibly the difference.

Somewhere back in this thread it was suggested to fix into the joints. This is the route I tend to go down good drill bit or not, as when that hose reel finally packs up and you take it down you'll be left with ugly great holes in your facing bricks that will always be ugly no matter what you do to them.

It was also suggested that I may have difficulties with the plug not gripping in the mortar. I couldn't line all the holes up with the cement so I thought I'd give it a bash with the brick. The money I spent on that hose and reel it'll remain there forever an ornament until I feel I've had my moneys worth. Cheers.

If you look to the first page you'll see that I did acknowledge the suggestion and that I'd try to get the bits. That's seems to have been missed by the antagonists.

I'm new to this forum and am very pleased with all the help and suggestions, I thought I'd be lucky to get one or two replies. I'm not going to get involved in ridiculous arguments. I could be wrong but I'd imagine that they are young men. I can't imagine most mature DIYers would act in such a way.
