Hi,

We are converting a basement area into a flat, we've exhausted all option to reach traditional drains so have to go saniflo.

Building Regs are saying if we do so we'd need to provide a 24hr stroage container in case the power goes off.

Has anyone else had this stipulation ? I can see the point but come on 24hrs ???.....who's going to sit in a flat for 24hrs with no power if they need the toilet !!

What options do we have here ? - i really dont want to break into the slab so it will have to be something on the floor somewhere.

tia,
Mike.

They have made the wrong statement.

Its not the power failure specifically. Its primarily to cover when the unit gets blocked or fails!

I have not encountered that relaxation before and am not sure if its a local dispensation they dreamed up or actually within the building regs.

But just how are you dealing with the much greater volume of washing and cooking waste water? That's usually about 100 litres per day per person!

Someone who's too ill to go out. Someone who's looking after someone who's too ill or too young to be left alone.

Dwellings must have adequate and sanitary means for disposal of excreta and the assumption that you can borrow a neighbour's or pop down the local supermarket when the saniflo stops flo-ing isn't acceptable in Britain in the 21st century.

I also am surprised that you have been allowed this relaxation. Usually a macerator system isn't allowed as the sole means of toilet in a dwelling.

And the assumption that you can get a plumber to repair one within 24 hours at any time of the year is questionable.
