Long time lurker and first time poster

My old nemesis, the boiler, is out to test me again. It's 10 years old, and after many repairs (including tig welding the water jacket) it's destined for replacement in the new year.

So, of course,in it's swansong it's throwing a hissy fit. Noticed last night the radiators weren't cooling, despite the thermostat not calling for heat. In fact, they were too hot to touch. So I ended up turning boiler / heating off completely and thought I'll look this morning.

Turn on the boiler, starts to heat up. The radiators are heating straight away, which is unusual as the small tank heats up for hot water first and then the radiators kick in one that reaches temperature. The rads are running too hot again (70degree C) this morning.

Despite replacing it only three years ago, I'm thinking the myson actuator has bitten the dust (again)

Does this sound right or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thanks in advance

Take the actuator head off and see if the valve spindle has leaked or seized.

Best thing for these was to rip out all the unreliable parts, turn it back into a conventional boiler on an S plan with Honey valves etc and couple it to an unvented cylinder....then they are reliable.

Sound, that way it should show if the actuator has failed? The 'slider' on the side is giving no resistance so I'm guessing a valve is stuck in one position.

Lets just say, Potterton is not on my shopping list in looking for it's replacement. But it appears Worcester owns Potterton and most of the oil fired manufacturers I may have a challenge ahead of me

AFAIK Worcester have nothing to do with Potterton oil wise.

Potterton are just a trading name of the Baxi Group, Worcester are part of the Bosch Group.

AFAIK Worcester oil boilers are not well regarded....do your research wisely.
