Hello everyone! Im taking woodwork in third year and i was wondering if any of you can give me some tips so i can have some extra knowlage for the course! Thanks

You've chosen the right time of year, because in your order to Santa get him to send a bench hook, tenon saw, coping saw, try square and 2 or 3 chisels.....those plus a Workmate or similar will get you streets ahead!
Build up your tool set as you can (mallet / hammer / smoothing plane / drill etc) and learn how to sketch in isometric.
Next, start planning things that you can make!

bench hook,i got my knuckles wrapped by my teacher for not using 1 when cutting some timber,my reply was they never had them on the site i was working on lol.
defo get a decent workmate,your still be using it many years from now.had the rise taken out of me when i 1st went on site with it,within the week everyone wanted to borrow it .
wrong time of year now,but when the boot sales kick off again go and pay them a visit,you will find endless tools to add to your collection for peanuts.
even it things are a tad rusty you should be able to clean them up and get them back to a decent finish.
and dont forget to get a decent sharpening stone,and practice using it to get the edges required.
i still struggle and ive been a carpenter/joiner for over 25 years

Just thinking back to what I was up to whilst teaching Key Stage 3.....
I presume your subject is really called Resistant Materials? Thats because you are required to work with and combine wood, metal and plastic - hopefully with a little electronics thrown in.
One recommended book is D+T Foundation Course by Collins.....one of the best I reckon, and not just because I was involved in the training of the authors
Your teacher will take you through basic projects and then, as you reach KS4, concentrate on the requirements of the exam board used by your school.
As for projects, consider moving toys (very popular and more complex than you think), animal hutches and similar, CD and games storage, small cabinets and so on.
Next time you pass a shop window selling toys and novelties, have a closer look and see what you think.....even if it means buying one to copy it will increase your skill levels considerably if you were to re-make it!

Look in Amazon "Collins Design and Technology" and find the one with a yellow cover, green writing which specialises in resistant materials and systems and control.
Its a little old to include things like CAD and CAM but its an excellent starter book.
The one you selected is more for GCSE guidance - which you'll come to!

Its a friendly and easy to read book which deals with tools, materials and techniques and how to use all of them really......invaluable facts that you need to get on the right road!
For project books, let google be your friend or keep an eye out in craft shop windows and the like for ideas. If my exam board had a brief for students to design and make childrens toys, thats where I would head for.
