Can we learn anything from our history?

Sorry officer, you can't charge me for that, it was last year.

Could this be the one and only Diane Abbott MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington? I sincerely hope not. If it is, you'd better toe the party line dear.................. Oh you are. ,,,
PS don't forget to declare all of your earnings in future and please don't call the pot black, when your the kettle.

Joe,, if you were truly educated,,, you'd be able to make your own quotes ,,, instead of relying heavily on others words of wisdom.

Nice to see you have even more persona's Joe (even posing as a female MP now.) You may yet get a spot on the Black and White Minstrel Show.

I won't deny it Joe, I just got sick of your attacks on almost everyone on here and decided,, If ya can't beat em,,, Join em. (nice isn't it) Only difference between us now is,,,, I only have the one account with DIYnot.

the Dutch have always been good friends, it's the countries that are still living in the dark ages and having civil wars amongst themselves.

My history books tell me that we fought the Boers (aka the Dutch) a couple of times, in SA in the 1879- 1915 period.
There was also a degree of animosity between the Boers and the English during WWII

Your way off coarse with this one Joe, the Boers and Hottentots were not dependent on Holland, I think if you do your research you will find they were similar to our Plymouth Brethren that we chased out of England, we wanted nothing to do with them as the Dutch wanted nothing to do with the Boers.

When I say they were similar I meant they were religious freaks, not the same religion, the Plymouth brethren and the Boers, the way they left their mother land and to become settlers in a new country...

For heaven's sake, lads, stop feeding the trolls.

I do think it's sad, though, when one individual feels the need to create a second (or even third) persona in order to appear to have others agreeing with him.

What's even more disturbing, is when the one with multiple personality disorder, thanks himself, via his other persona's

I note you didn't comment on the Boers Joe, proved how inferior your historical facts are did I?

Is this an abject apology then Joe?

Absolutely not. But you can't see a situation for what it is unless you can understand how it came about.
It's called "dialectics"
Look it up, educate yourself.

Only by understanding how a situation evolved can you formulate and comprehend the best way of dealing with it.

By "dealing with it", don't you actually mean "droning on and on about it, but actually doing nothing".

And I expect "dialectics" was coined by a "great mind"; if the world was as full of well-intentioned doers, as it is thinkers, we'd all be better off.

Why do posters find it necessary to resort to insults and accusations when they've obviously lost the argument? Is it an indication of their immaturity or their intellect?

Perhaps we ought to provide a course on 'discussion forum etiquette', or how to provide substantive reasoning to support your argument.

Naah, that wouldn't work, students need a modicum of intelligence, courtesy and honour before they are allowed to start the course.

.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

That was 10 years ago, I apologised at the time,

Small comfort to the British people who put their faith in you to be an honest person Diane. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, "Ohh I apologised for ripping off the honest taxpayers,, so that's alright."..

Any MP found guilty of fraudulent expenses claims or non disclosure of other income, should be made to stand down immediately. Banned for life from politics and should lose all parliamentary pension rights . That'll sort the bluggers out.

I've tidied the syntax for you.
These posts refer to the Crusades. Are you suggesting that we should do something about them?

And I expect "dialectics" was coined by a "great mind"; if the world was as full of well-intentioned doers, as it is thinkers, we'd all be better off.
"The word dialectic originated in ancient Greece, and was made popular by Plato in the Socratic dialogues.
Socrates favoured truth as the highest value, proposing that it could be discovered through reason and logic in discussion: ergo, dialectic." Wikipedia
Is that great enough for you?

Thanks for the tidying - still have little clue how to get this damned quoting to work! :)
Nice try at a dodge re: Crusades, but (I hope that) you know full well, my point was an action is worth a thousand (or more) words. You are very comfortable quoting wisdom - do you actually do anything to improve the world, or just patronise others with your superior intellect?
I know full well what dialectic means, and how it is derived (that's a grammar school heducation, don't you know  ); see the "actions speak louder than words" bit above.
