I have a spur to where the cooker hood (Stainless chimney type) is going, Any preferences on whether to connect the cooker hood via plug and socket or hard wired into a fused spur? (hidden behind chimney)

:)

I would personally use a FCU, unless you're planning on moving the extractor around the house?

Thanks guys

My instinct was FCU but it just seams easier to fix the socket before the kitchen goes in and once every thing is installed just plug the hood into into a socket without reaching over and into the hood to hard wire

True, but even if it were a socket it would have to be reasonably 'accessible' (for inspection and testing), so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to connect the hood to an FCU in the same place.

Kind Regards, John

Have you considered putting the FCU next to whatever it is you are connecting the spur from? And then use a flex outlet behind the chimney.

I was advised to do that by my electrician when we did our kitchen.
Ours is next to a double socket and the hob switch and it doesn't look out of place. I never turn it off but if in the event of something ever bursting into flames in that area, I know I can isolate the extractor and the hob without having to reach above the hob.
