Was it only a matter of time?

Cliff Richards and the Shadows, I can deal with,,, Cliff Richards in the shadows I have trouble with.

Breaking news, police have arrested one of the stars of childrens tv show Rainbow, on suspicion of paedophilia.. A spokesperson said Zippy remains tight lipped on the subject.

They had to release him, solicitors representing him said it was a bungle(d) police operation.

Why a matter of time?

Because you think he has history of sexually abusing or that he was bound to be a target?
Given the reporting of his 'lifestyle' over the decades, possibly the latter...

Whether that is justified or not will maybe be revealed over the coming months...

Witchhunt or justified investgations?

Whatever the truth, generations of 'icons' are tainted - guilty or not!

Good call - just because he hasn't married, had kids etc, doesn't make him guilty. How many other so called stars are going to be next?

Unfortunately the lack of police action against Saville and Cyril Smith may result in over zealous prosecutions or police attention, and we all know that mud sticks even on the innocent.

Add to that the alleged cover-up of goings on of politicians (including ex cabinet ministers) that apparently went to the very top of the Thatcher government...

Why do we not hear about those involved in the Elm Guest House investigation in the same way as 'entertainers'?

Because focusing on celebs does tend to take the spotlight off the 'powerful'!

Obviously, it's the 'old boys' club'. The Devil looks after his own.

Or possibly ex cabinet ministers aren't as wealthy as celebs. So the chance of a big "shut up" fee or compo isn't going to be as high  :?

Ever heard of a 'poor' ex-cabinet minister though?

One example nearby us has been rather quick to deny a 'rumour' and he's loaded!

Is that right his next single's "Bummer holiday" ?

I'll get me coat.

Whilst of course right to name and shame those convicted of these offences, naming them before they are found guilty of anything isn't fair IMHO as their image and reputation will forever after be tainted even if found innocent of any wrongdoing.

Eddie, my sentiments exactly.

When reading of some being falsely accused of rape, sexual assault etc. I think there's a good case for anonymity. An eg a guy was accused of rape after the girl's boyfriend found out she had had sex with another guy. Eventually(in court under cross examination)she admitted she had made false allegations to save her relationship. The accused had gone through 18months of hell after it was reported in the local paper shortly after he was charged.

What confuses me about the search of Cliff Richards house was the presence of the press helicopter and cameras outside the estate gates showing the police arriving. How did theyknow about the search prior to the police arriving? A tip-off? And if so from whom?

It stinks of a police strategy?

BTW...nobody in the UK is found to be innocent unless the prosecution drop the charges or withdraw. Found not guilty(in UK law) means the prosecution failed to prove guilt but doesn't prove innocence.

What's the difference? The person found 'not guilty' cannot claim damages.
