Fireplace wiring safe?

I would like to somehow wire it all in to the fused socket so I am able to use the switch on the left to turn the fire on and off
1) I don't see why you want an unswitched FCU and a separate switch.

2) How will the flex from the fire get to the switch?

The fire will be over the fused socket so won't see that at all
What will you do if you ever need to replace the fuse?

He wants to re-use as much of the original wiring as possible, I should think. He wants the original switch, and to use the fused spur as a means of connecting the electric fire.

The flex from the wire doesn't get connected to the switch, it gets connected to the fused spur. The two red wires get used as a switch loop, going to the switch. The fused spur remains behind the fire, if there's room at least. (Failing that, perhaps the fire can go above the fused spur, but lets not think too hard about that at this stage.)

If the fire is infront of the fused spur, the fire will have to be removed if the fuse needs replacing. This shouldn't be too difficult.

Need to check switch is rated for 13amps.

Daniel.

The switch looks like it may be a 20 amp double pole switch. 1970s Volex, I estimate. Only one pole (the lives) of the switch gets used. Would like to see an earth wire there.

You can not use the old switch without it being rewired. There is no earth and the wires do not appear to have any mechanical protection. (Sheath, conduit etc)
