I installed a new monobloc mixer yesterday with flexible tap tails instead of the copper ones as they came with the tap pack. There appears to be a leak off the hot connection which I will investigate further tomorrow after work.

In anticipation of having to buy a new flexible tap tail can I ask is there a standard size? I have seen 15mm in the majority of searches I have done. I also think the length is 300mm.

Are the flexible tap tails better than the copper ones??

15mm is the usual supply pipework size but you need to know what size the threaded end that screws into the monobloc is

I always wrap a few turns of ptfe tape around the thread of the tail take is screwed into the tap body. Never had a leak.

Flexible are easier to fit, but the tap is more likely to rotate in use than if you fit rigid tails.

Probably just the 'O' ring, new taps often come with a spare pair.?

Yes, the kit had a spare set of o rings. TBH I wasn't sure what they were for and I was wondering if i'd missed putting them on somewhere and that was contributing to the leak.

I was going to try the PTFE tape on the threads when I look at it tonight and hopefully that'll sort out the problem. :D

I had a go at fixing the leak yesterday evening. I took off the hot feed flexi tail and checked the o-ring for signs of damage. There was non that I could see the ring was intact and didn't appear split or broken.

I used PTFE tape at both ends of the connection, although I didn't wet the o-ring as advised as I didn't see this post until after I'd had a go at the repair.

I tightened everything up and left it overnight. This morning I checked a small dish I'd placed under the sink to see if any leaks were still there. The outside of the flexi pipe was damp and there was water in the dish.

I'm going to go to the local plumbers and get a new flexi tail and install it as I'm beginning to think that there may be a defect in the existing flex tail which is causing the leak to occur.

If this brings no joy I'll have to think about talking to a plumber to see what they think?

Hey OP, mono bloc flexi's are normally sized as M10 or M12. It sounds like you have fitted M10's instead of M12's.

PTFE tape isn't needed, either wet o-ring or use a small smear if silicone lube if need be.

If you fit an M10 in a M12 thread you get more than a few drips!

Leave the PTFE of - the O rings form the seal and it's more likely that you'll damage the seal by using it.

I'm not sure what question you're trying to answer but:

1) It's not possible to fit M10 tails into M12 threads and get anywhere near a watertight seal
2) Highly unlikely that with a new tap the wrong tails would be supplied
3) Wrapping PTFE round the tread over the O rings is not needed and is a bad idea.

Haha 10mm flexis won't even thread into m12 holes, they'll literally fall in/out !

Switch the hot and cold tails over. If the cold starts to leak, replace tap tails for new (or try new o rings). If the hot side is still leaking, there could be a fault with the tap itself. Unlikely, but I have had to return a tap before.

Guys read what I've wrote, it 's easy!

M10 thread goes into a 10mm thread
M12 thread goes into a 12mm thread

Just because one end is one size dosn't mean that the other side is.

All flexi's for mono blocs are sized at m10 or m12 so if it don't fit or leaks then you have used the wrong size, simple.
