Does anyone know why our shaved socket buzzes when it's being used. Its been in since the house was built from what I can gather but I don't kbow if I need to change it or if it's a bit loose... so looking for possible issues if any.

Thanks

James

as you can hear it i assume you may not be using your shaver
many sockets are not for continuous use [not for charging]

Transformer laminations vibrating, nothing to worry about. The large transformer at your local sub station buzzes as well.

The laminations can loosen up over time. Get a new one, if it is annoyingly loud.

Some makes (crabtree for example) are only energised when there is something plugged in. Cheaper makes are on all of the time.

This only happens when in use so when charging the shaver its just annoying as you just hear this buzzing I wasn't sure if it was a loose connection or something which is going to cause a problem. I will get it replaced with a Crabtree then and see what happens.

I presume that if I replace it and use it the buzzing should stop if its a decent make? or should it still buzz?

Thanks

James

its quite loud as it can be heard when walking up the stairs and on the other side of the wall when going to bed!

I tightened it against the wall last night and its buzzing has reduced quite a bit so I will test it at the first opportunity and see what happens.

If its still a nightmare I will get it changed ASAP.

just make sure the new one is rated to charge rather than just run a shaver

Thanks I have been looking at them and its not really obvious is there anything specific it will say?
There is a 'toothbush symbol' you can look for, which indicates that they are designed to be OK for charging toothbrushes. The associated blurb will probably also say that they are suitable for that purpose.

Kind Regards, John

Thanks its just I haven't found any... Well I found one however it says that they have a fault where it cracks the plastic so I opted not for that one so I haven't really found any more... but I will keep looking

I have found this one which has mixed reviews:

http://www.screwfix.com/p/mk-dual-voltage-shaver-socket-115-230v-white/55378

What are other thoughts on this? I presume that its been redesigned since the reviews were poor in 2010 and good in 2014 with the toothbrush symbol.

Many Thanks

James
