Hello.

I have a single socket in my garage, I need it in a different place. Is it ok to remove the front from the existing and extend the wire using a choc block then put a blanking plate on existing and extend wire to new socket location please?

Thanks

The short answer is yes - provided, of course, it is done 'competently'. Use the same size cable for the extension as is currently feeding the socket.

The more ideal approach would, of course, be to install a new cable, of adequate length, to the socket in the new position from wherever the cable currently comes from - so there would then be no joins in the cable.

Kind Regards, John

How is the socket fed? it may not be nessacery to get rid of the existing socket.

That is very true - but I read the OP as indicating that the desire was just to move it. Having said that, if it is just one single socket, it wouldn't be all that surprising if it was an unfused spur from a ring in the house - in which case adding a second socket would obviously not be so straightforward.

Hello, the current socket is damaged, the switch no longer works and is jammed so I will remove the front and replace with a blanking plate and extend.

I will use the same size cable when I extend, thanks for your help.

Fair enough. You're welcome.
