It is an easy target but I can't help thinking the system has lost its way. I understand some people being recognised for good work above and beyond the call but why is it that being on the telly seems to be an almost automatic qualification. And why is it that minor telly people get the MBEs and Knighthoods when people who devote their whole lives to helping others get a well done certificate? Don't want to sound sour grapes but this is round the wrong way isn't it?

I have said for a long time that these New Year's Honours are becoming rather meaningless. Footballers, pop singers and the like: what on earth have they done to benefit the people of this country?

It's a similar situation with life peerages. Make a generous donation to your favourite political party, and you become a baron or, if you're lucky (or grease the right palms) a viscount or even higher.

As I said, meaningless, other than the fact that you know the right people.

I appeared on tv (on "Police Five) , some years ago. ,,, yet her majesty has seen fit to overlook me yet again for my richly deserved MBE.

Maybe it's waiting for you at one of your LKAs (last known addresses). ;)
