We have a wall that has a crack all the way up from being damaged by a door banging into it. Have tried to fill the crack and sand back with polyfilla but this has just made it look worse.

The damaged section behind the door is 1m x 2.5m but does join to a bigger wall above the door frame. Can we just get this section reskimmed or do you have to get the entire wall reskimmed?

Thanks

As gregers.
If your wall that is being banged into is a stud wall and boards not secure, may need some screwing of boards before re skim.
Alternatively, put a doorstop into the floor to keep it clear of the wall.

Why did Polyfill make it look worse? Anyway, it is horrible stuff, hard to sand. Buy some Easyfill, rake out the cracks, apply easifill, when dry apply more if needed as it shrinks a bit. Then sand smooth. Sorted.

To be honest the crack isn't even that big. Where I've polyfillaed over it it's created extra depth out from the wall and can't get it back to flat.

the best way to fill a crack is the gouge it out and make it bigger then fill it and smoothe it flat with the rest of the wall.
if you just fill it over the top of the crack your just adding more material to the problem.
