I worked in the trade up until 1990 (self-employed, RP). I want to start again and want to know the quickest route to CORGI registration. I have read about ACS but I'm not sure if this means if I can then apply for CORGI, also any idea what all this would cost.
ACS is several hundred quid and several days depending what elements you want, but the hurdle is "experience" of gas. You need someone to give evidence of some silly number of hours(80?) of your "gas" work, per element.

I work for a chain of private schools as a plumber, my company has tried to get me onto gas but it's a constant brick wall, you have to now work for a corgi registered firm and have to fill out a portfolio and produce 80 hours of gas work covering various installations.
What this is now going to do is cause a shortfall in gas plumbers, as city & guilds professionals like me cannot get onto the bandwagon, and i am alienated because i don't work for a corgi company.
