Tadcaster Bridge

I have seen the video of the bridge collapsing several times on the news but have only just noticed what people were saying at the time. Apart from all the general laughing and joking as the 300 year old bridge is about to fall, someone filming on their mobile is saying 'Go on, go on, off you go'.

I despair.

The bridge is lost - a sad but unavoidable situation.

Squeaky is despairing of the attitude of some who see it as entertainment and are willing the bridge to fail so they can get some sort of sick enjoyment from seeing it fall.

I bet these are the same people who watch a person on a bridge or high building and encourage them to jump.

Exactly. it seems that people don't care what happens so long as they can film it and post it on youtube or farce ****ter.

Seems to be a sign of the times, first reaction from a certain age group seems to be video the incident and rush to upload it to the web. A friend of mine had a daughter who was involved in a serious car crash and had to be cut out of the wreckage. She was appalled to find footage of her daughter (understandably), very distressed, whilst still trapped in the car on a number of Facebook accounts.

It seems the trend is forget helping and see if you can get a 'good' video file to upload

This sort of thing, of course, has only begun to happen siince the advent of the smart phone.
One thing that makes me laugh is seeing everyone (well, at least many people) walking about in town or at the supermarket with a phone attached permanently to their ear. It's as if they daren't venture far out of their houses without the comfort of someone to talk to.
My smartphone remains in my pocket just about all of the time unless there is a genuine need for its use. This is partly because of the present day situation where if it's in your hand there is a good possibility that some scrote will snatch it and be off.

It's been done before, after a fashion.
The Victorians often made a practice of photographing their friends and relatives just after they had died.

That's probably why they did it. Much less blurry pictures.

Perhaps the storm did the people of Tadcaster a favour and washed away a dangerous bridge before anyone got hurt or killed.

Nutwork Fail replaced a footbridge in order to get a few more inches of space above the track for over head power cables ( Midland Main Line electrification )
BEFORE there was a lovely place to pic nic or relax and watch the world and the trains go past.
