Checking capacitor on whirlpool pump

Even though when I click the button it turns the pump on to hum could the other part of the switch be broke. Or would this not turn on pump to hum unless both parts are working. I have attached pictures to try be more clear. Anyone ?

The switch makes the contact telling the motor to run. If you do the flick test and the motor runs then indications are the capacitor is at fault, if you do flick test and motor goes solid and will not rotate then this indicates the motor windings are damaged.
 
if you have a meter you should be able to test your capacitor.
Ok just done this test and mine is staying between 0.6 - 0.7 and not dropping back down. Am I right in saying it faulty ?

That video says the meter should go up then drop back to zero to say they are good.

This one the reading stay high and that means there good, so I am now confused.

Are you using a digital multi-meter on resistance setting or an analogue(with a needle) one as shown in the video? If so then yes your capacitor is faulty. If you are using a digital one then I don't think it nescasarily proves anything. Start capacitors failing is quite a common fault though & is the thing I would start with in your situation if you cannot flip it as described earlier ( & looking at your pics. I doubt you will be able to)

Yes it was on a digital multi meter. I have ordered the capacitor anyway so will try that once it comes. I take it t still could be this. if not it seems like motor winding what someone else said I guess ?
 
What voltage is the capacitor you have brought, i note existing one is 400volt.
Not sure why, but with Lighting, I was told that some caps needed to be 400volt rated even though they were used on 230volt lighting

have never really understood caps but they do state 400v amongst other voltages on them
 
What you think guys, do you think the one I have ordered is suitable. ?

I can see it not being this capacitor and having to order a whole pump right before christmas, bet hey thats life
