Converting single socket to triple socket, with 1 earth wire

Hello, I have just moved into a house and in our living room there seems to only be 2 single sockets. Ones fine but the other is near where out home entertainment system (TV, audio, lights etc.) Will go. We started with extension cables but before we knew it, we had extension on extension which I don't want and I believe is not safe as well

The single sockets only has one live, earth and neutral wire, but the triple switch socket has 2 earth's, the instructions show (but don't say however) to insert three earth wires.

Is this necessary or can I only have 1 earth wire inserted?

You need firstly, Identify what type of socket circuit it is?
There a generally two types: A radial or A ring final circuit. There are then two types of radial circuits.
Depending which type of circuit it is, would dictate what methods of wiring are safe and compliant to install.
When you say extension, do you mean extending the conductors or extending the circuit?

Count up how many plugs you're using at the minute as I know you can get 8 and 12 way gangs, considerably less irritation than rewiring and also much easier for cable management. If you do go ahead with the additional switch sockets then definitely go for the additional Earth wires, at least then if the new switch socket fails you can go back to the manufacturer and say it failed despite wiring to their instructions. Hopefully it won't but you never know. I know in the past I've seen wiring simply split from single to triple using a split box of some sort and has worked without any issues so far. Whether it is compliant with Building Regs and pass a safety check is a different matter.

Your post does not make good reading. I fear you are advising work to be carried that is potentially dangerous.
The OP MUST identify what type of circuit it is and how it is configured. Not firk about with the unknown and you must stop giving uniformed and dangerous advice!

Hi, if the triple socket has an internal 13a fuse it will fine as its compliant. The earth terminals are electrically connected together, so don't worry about having only one earth wire connected to one terminal. I picture would help PBoD relax

That is providing we are talking about a fused multiple socket and the single socket is being replaced for that and not being used as an additional one.
But it is important firstly to establish what we have!

I agree with Khuz29.
Just buy something like this.

Just plug it into the existing socket and stop agonising about wiring that you do not understand and that you do not need to worry about.

?? If so, I wonder where these 'additional earth wires' would come from?
