Charging car battery on laminate work top.

Better off not charging a battery inside your house, they give off hydrogen which is explosive.

That battery must have been dying or overfilled to be venting acid.

If you replace the worktop it will be a good opportunity to re-do that grouting as well.

Reminds me of when I got a new car battery delivered. When the courier handed it over to me, the bottom of the box was soaking wet. I assumed he had put it down on the ground outside as it was raining... I instantly regretted grabbing the box! Turns out the battery had been dropped and I had grabbed a handful of acid. It stings . It also nicely bleached the stone floor outside the door and the carpet inside where it had dripped.

Why not just get some more battery acid and paint the whole worktop with it, then your missus will think you have fitted a nice new white worktop while she was out. Think positively

They certainly can explode. I had a minivan years ago, the battery is behind the drivers seat, with a cardboard cover I had a bike silencer in the back. Somehow the cover dislodged and the silencer rolled and dropped onto the terminals
