If you hadn't noticed most coppers in London are now armed under the guise of a 'terrorism' alert. I honestly think it's just to make people accustomed to seeing armed police, which is especially worrying when civilans are not allowed to arm themselves. They run these operations on the underground where they forcibly stop people, they call is stop and account. It's completely unlawful, coppers need probable cause to stop someone they suspect of doing something criminal, under the terrorism umbrella they are now getting away with unlawful stop and searchs (as they used to be called), and nobody batters an eye lid.

I think you have a valid point there, Hawkeye, (it grieves me to have to agree with one of your comments, but I recognise a genuine concern).
It was not eloquently put, but the loss of civil liberties, which is the umbrella description of what you are referring to, is concerning, and as you rightly point out, often carried out under an excuse, however credible that excuse may be.

I do not, however agree with your inference, if that is what it was, that civilians ought to have the right to arms.

Hawkeye, you are right about the arming of the Police, put it to a vote and the answer IMO would be that everyday beat coppers should not be armed, but because of the Terrorist threat it is creeping in

I am on the Isle of Wight, all Traffic Cops carry sidearms, and as Beat coppers are now few and far between that means a first response copper will be armed.

I do not mind the principle of THE police being armed, BUT -

I would not like some of the police officers I have talked to in the past to be armed - TAS.

Wow. My parents used to live in Cowes and I was a regular visitor to the Island until a few years ago. It always seemed such a sleepy backwater that I almost feel a little saddened to imagine all the police with pistols over there.

Well when they run out of enemies to use against the public, e.g. ISIS, then what? Attack Russia I suppose and start using that excuse. Pretty sick of it now. They do these polls as well, asking if people feel comfortable seeing armed police? Who the fukc feels comfortable with a pair of plonks sauntering about with semi-autos? I don't think the plod force realise just how suspicious the public are of the whole thing. They've never stopped a terrorist in their life, any of these coppers, it's all for show. If it's about emergency response they could just as easily have coppers on standby with conceal and carry.

I also respect the US constitution and believe that a citizen has a right to bare arms for their own protection and to fight against government tyranny which is what the founding father's deliberately built into their constitution; they predicted one day the government would turn tyrannical and it slowly has gone that way with each passing day. I wouldn't want to see the UK go the same way but most definitely no to plods having guns, and furthermore no to them having tasers which is the subject of this thread. Most plod don't have the intelligence to police a public toilet let alone carry assault weapons, very dangerous and no not acceptable. Perhaps one day when the government isn't so protective of the corporations maybe then the police will go back to protecting and serving the public like they once did before. At the moment it feels the police 'force' is 'enforcing', and it certainly ain't the public interest. Having said all that it's a sh1t job, but they could help themselves more by actually turning around to their superiors and saying ''no we don't think we should all have tasers, or firearms''. At the moment most are quite happy to jog along to their orders, which is harming their image. And fukc me their public image couldn't get any lower, could it?

Look at all the public order offences and laws in the UK. It's been eating into public freedom for a LONG time now, all under the guise of political correctness and terrorism. Most people I think see the plod as a parasite. They expect to be preyed on with all these fines and charges that basically just bring business to the court, fukc whether someone is guilty or not.

In favour of randoms on the street having guns, and attempting to overthrow the state, but wants unarmed police?

must be drunk again.

He's certainly a paranoid little boy.

How do you know that? He might be 18 1/2 stone, 6'1", full of test, decades in the gym, ex boxer, looking at your photo thinking you're the spitting image of Freddy Mercury days before he died? It's a big assumption to make.
